Protection of Mari El former Governor Markelov appealed his arrest
The ex-Head of the region is accused of 235 million rubles ($4.17m) bribe-taking. Leonid Markelov does not admit his guilt, declaring that "authoritative people" are ready to stand bail for him.
Lawyers of Mari El Republic former Head Leonid Markelov appealed his arrest upon the case of receiving multimillion bribes to the Moscow City Court, lawyer Alexey Dudnik told journalists on April 17.
Earlier, as the CrimeRussia wrote, the defense of the official appealed the initiation of a criminal case against Markelov. The former Governor himself does not admit his guilt during the court hearing, stressing that "authoritative people" are ready to stand bail for him.
To recall, the Basmanny Court of Moscow arrested Markelov for two months, which he will serve in the Lefortovo pre-trial detention center. According to the investigation, the ex-Governor of Mari El received a bribe of more than 235 million rubles ($4.17m) through a confidant, Natalia Kozhanova, from founder of the Akashevskaya factory Nikolay Krivash for patronage and assistance with state support for the development of the agricultural complex.
