Prosecution requests 13 years in jail and $8.5m-fine for ex-Governor of Sakhalin

The former Governor does not admit his guilt.⁠

During the debate at the regular hearing on the case of Sakhalin region ex-Head Alexander Khoroshavin, the prosecution asked the court to appoint a penalty of 13 years’ imprisonment in a strict regime colony. Prosecutor Denis Shtunder announced this in the Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk City Court.

The required term is the result of a partial addition of penalties for the probable crimes of the ex-Governor. In addition to the conclusion, the prosecution demanded that Khoroshavin pay a fine of 500 million rubles ($8.5m).

Recall, former Governor of the Sakhalin region Alexander Khoroshavin is accused of several episodes of receiving especially large bribes. There are 8 episodes of bribery totaling 522 million rubles ($8.9m). In addition, the ex-Governor is accused of legalizing criminal proceeds.

Alexander Khoroshavin was detained in 2015. During the searches, there were confiscated a lot of jewelry, as well as a pen worth 36 million rubles ($617.800). However, he himself denies its existence.

Khoroshavin does not agree with the charges against him and completely denies his guilt.
