Prisoners secretly build yacht worth $ 160,000
The penal colony did not pay for the work, and it’s too late to punish the guilty.
The prisoners built a yacht worth 10 million rubles ($ 160,000) in the penal colony No. 12 of Nizhny Tagil for a riot police commander, Colonel Dmitry Zudov, Baza reports citing the now free prisoner Grigory Chunkin, who was involved in the labor. The Prosecutor's Office revealed violations, but the perpetrators can no longer be punished due to the statute of limitations.
According to one of the former prisoners IK-12, in 2015, the head of the colony Dmitry Grigoryev handed over the documentation with the yacht project to Chunkin. All orders during the construction were transmitted orally and not recorded anywhere. The prisoners did not receive a salary. Chunkin demands 133,000 rubles ($ 2,000) from the colony.
After the Prosecutor’s Office got involved in the incident, the ex-head of IK-12, Igor Pankratov, called the colony’s deputy chief Ryazanov, the head of the repair and mechanical workshop, Tolmachev, and the senior master of the mechanical workshop, Sazhin, guilty of the incident. According to the legislation, the employee could demand money from them within a year from the moment of the violation.
