Police detain deputy head of Federal Penitential Service for Tyumen region
According to the Nezigar Telegram channel, Ilya Prokopiev is suspected of fraud and office abuse.
Ilya Prokopiev, First Deputy Chief of the Federal Penitential Service (FSIN) for the Tyumen Region, has been detained on suspicion of fraud, Ura.ru reported citing law enforcement and administration sources.
According to one of the sources, Prokopiev could have been involved in the forgery of medical documents for early release. The sources say that the Tyumen ICR is investigating the case.
The Nezigar Telegram channel reported that Prokopiev was charged with office abuse and fraud. The first deputy head of the local FSIN office was reportedly detained on Friday, June 8.
The Tyumen FSIN had a reshuffle in October 2017. The head of the office, Vadim Verstkin, became the head of the Primorsky office as part of a routine rotation. His move was preceded by a few scandals in some of the region’s penitentiary institutions, such as when Sergey Gilev, one of the defendants of the FSB hitmen case, committed suicide in Zavodoukovsk in the summer of 2017. Then a Ukrainian citizen who had been serving time for drug trafficking in IK-2 killed himself, too. Human rights activists believe that he was a victim of alleged prison extortionists.
In mid-April 2018, the FSB detained Tamara Zykova, the head of the Tyumen Tax Administration. The official was suspected of tax fraud, according to one of the theories.
On the eve of the tournament, some British media published provocative materials on the expectable behavior of local fans at the World Сup, and also referred to the challenging situation between two countries.
