Police arrest Pushkino District head
The official was detained on bribery and office abuse charges.
The Basmanny Court of Moscow arrested Yevgeny Zhirkov, the head of the Pushkino District of the Moscow Region, who is accused of accepting a bribe and exceeding his official authority, RBC reports citing the court’s press service.
Zhirkov has been detained for 1 month and 25 days, that is, until August 13, the publication was informed by the press service. The investigation asked for and obtained custody.
The official was detained on June 20. The administration of the Pushkino district was searched yesterday. Zhirkov is prosecuted for major bribery (part 6 of Art. 290 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
According to investigators, in 2015, being the head of Balashikha, Zhirkov accepted residential premises of over a thousand square meters from a developer, who had repeatedly missed deadlines for the commissioning of housing. In exchange, the official gave his patronage to the developer.
Yevgeny Zhirkov was head of Balashikha between 2014 and 2017. In the summer of 2017, he moved to the post of head of the Pushkino District after a scandal around the Kuchino landfill.
