Orenburg Region Sports Minister to face trial on corruption charges

The investigation against Minister of Physical Education, Sports and Tourism of the Orenburg Region, Oleg Pivunov, has been completed. The case materials were filed to court, the press service of the Investigative Committee for the region said.
The message says that the official is accused of Misappropriation with the use of official position and Abuse of Authority by a person holding public office of a subject of the Russian Federation".
In particular, according to the investigation’s version, between 2015 and 2016, Pivunov repeatedly organized his own business trips outside the region "to participate in not job-related events," thus appropriating 182 thousand rubles ($3231) from the budget.
In addition, it was established that between 2014 and 2016 Pivunov provided for the gratuitous stay of his son, two of his deputies and their families in apartments rented at the expense of the Orenburg regional public organization Basketball Club Nadezhda, causing damage to the club in the amount of 2.7 million rubles ($47.900).
The charges of non-payment of taxes and abuse of authority were divided into a separate criminal case.
