In Moscow, law enforcement officers initiated a criminal case against Kashmatov, the head of the 12th Economic Crimes Unit (BEP), and Ataev, the head of the “C” department of the Main Directorate of Internal Security of the Russian MIA. They were suspected of receiving a bribe of 15 million rubles ($ 225,000), REN-TV reported.
The officers were detained on Friday, December 7, during a joint operation conducted by the FSB and MIA’s Main Investigative Directorate. They are suspected of of receiving a particularly large bribe to terminate certain probes. The apartments of the detainees were searched.
