The official was detained immediately after she celebrated her birthday. At the moment, she has been placed under house arrest as part of the investigation. It is noteworthy that her immediate boss, the governor of Sakhalin, is also under investigation in the case of corruption.
The court has ruled on her detention and elected a preventive measure in the form of house arrest. Elena Gakh is charged with fraud with budgetary funds of 1 billion rubles. According to investigative bodies, the funds allocated for the construction of an agro-complex on the territory of the state farm turned out to be transferred to the accounts of a dummy company.
She was detained the following day, after the official celebrated her birthday. A criminal case under abuse of official powers was initiated against her on March 2. The operatives conducted searches at Elena Gakh's office and home.

In 2008, she joined the Ministry of Economic Development for the Sakhalin region, and in 2011, she became deputy minister. July 21, 2015, she was appointed minister of the department.
According to the Russian MIA’s spokesperson, Maria Zakharova, the detention of Russian woman Maria Butina in the US was specifically timed to coincide with the summit of Putin and Trump in order to minimize the effect of the presidents’ meeting.
