Krasnodar region: head of anti-corruption department busted on bribery
The law enforcer and his subordinate wanted to ‘protect’ illegal lumbermen.
A criminal case has been initiated against the head of the Anti-Corruption Department in the Labinsky district, the press service of the Investigative Committee of Russia in the Krasnodar region reports.
The law enforcer and his subordinate are suspected of receiving a bribe. The investigation theory is that the law enforcers arrived at a local wood plant and found wood in a truck. With that, its owner did not have any papers for the wood.
Then, the law enforcer offered to give them a bribe, having promised not to initiate a criminal case into the illegal activity. The businessmen told about the agreement to their colleague who had had the similar issues with the wood.
The investigation found out that the head of the economic security and anti-corruption department had offered to help the owners of the wood plant and asked to give him and his subordinate 250 thousand rubles ($3.9 thousand). However, this person turned to law enforcement instead. After that, the intermediary of the businessmen, who had agreed to give the bribe to the corruption fighter, was detained.
