Kalmykia: deputy Minister of Natural Resources arrested for bribery
Senior executives of the local oil companies paid money for a rental apartment for the official.
Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of Kalmykia has been arrested on suspicion of bribery. The media office of the Republic’s Investigative Committee reports that criminal case against him was initiated under item 5c of article 290 of Russia’s Criminal Code (Bribe taking by an official). According to the investigation, a few senior executives of the local oil companies paid money for a rental apartment for the official from July, 2018, up to March, 2019. It is about the amount worth of 450 thousand rubles ($6.9 thousand).
The official is the suspect. His name is not disclosed. This is probably Mikhail Stroganov - he supervises activities of oil companies. He was appointed in November, 2009.
General’s son Mikhail Sal’nikov, Professor of the Department of Theory of Government and Law at the St. Petersburg University of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of the Russian Federation, has been detained for real estate fraud. Amid other corruption crimes hitting the headlines, this offense does not seem a high-profile one. But the point is that this is not the first criminal case instituted against professor Sal’nikov, and he is not the only relative of MIA general Viktor Sal’nikov having problems with the law.
