Investigator and two attorneys detained for extorting bribes
All three were arrested.
Investigator of Verkh-Isetsky district of Yekaterinburg, 27-year-old Taras Bulgakov, and two lawyers were detained in the Sverdlovsk region for extorting a bribe totaling 20 million rubles ($324.400). The corrupt officials were detained while receiving the first tranche of the bribe - 10 million rubles.
The crime was solved due to the statement of a resident of Yekaterinburg, who appealed to law enforcement agencies and said that Bulgakov and two lawyers demand from him 20 million rubles for non-initiation of the criminal case. It should be noted that the employee of the investigative department for the Verkh-Isetsky district of the city of Yekaterinburg and the lawyers could not influence the solution of the case. Therefore their actions are now classified as a fraud; charges are brought against them under part 3 of Art. 30, part 4 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code.
The detention of all three persons was conducted with the assistance of the regional department of the FSB of Russia and the ICR in the Sverdlovsk region. The press service of the ICR in the Sverdlovsk region confirmed the fact of the detention.
The court arrested them.
It is noted that this is the largest bribe given to the investigative officer.
Major general Igor Vasiliev, Head of the Engineering Support Service of the Federal Protection Service (FPS), and lieutenant general Ulitin subordinate to him are currently in the middle of a scandal. However, it is unlikely that they lose their posts. Reportedly, the two generals are just the tip of the huge corruption iceberg in the law enforcement structures. This is not the first embezzlement episode in their careers.
