The Main Military Investigation Department (GVSU) of the ICR has extended an investigation into the theft of property of the Defense Ministry, the main defendant in which is the former Head of the Property Relations Department (DIO) of the Ministry of Defense Evgenia Vasilyeva, until May 14, 2019.

The GVSU reported the completion of the investigation into the main case of Evgenia Vasilyeva back in 2017, but they did not pass the materials to the court, since the process was postponed for an indefinite period. The sources of Rosbalt did not specify the reason for the delay. Most of the investigation counts concern the embezzlement of billions of rubles during the sale of the Defense Ministry's property through the DIO, which was headed by Vasilyeva. The GVSU combined 32 criminal cases on theft of the Ministry of Defense's property into one proceeding. Back in 2013, materials on 12 counts of criminal activity were split off into separate proceedings, the investigation of which had been completed by the time. Vasilyeva and her accomplices were charged with embezzlement. She was found guilty of property fraud in the military department. Vasilyeva received five years in prison, however, 3.5 months after being taken into custody she got a parole in the courtroom. The court took into account her long-term stay under house arrest for a long time.

In late 2013, former Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov became involved in a criminal case under the article Negligence, but it was dropped in February 2014 — Serdyukov was recognized as “defender of the fatherland” and came under an amnesty on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Russian Constitution.
