ICR initiates case against ex-Minister of Economics of the Astrakhan region
According to the investigation, while being a bankruptcy supervisor of an organization in the period from 2015 to 2017, the official sold its assets to a close friend.
A criminal case of Abuse of Official Powers and Falsification of Evidence has been initiated against former Minister of Economics of the Astrakhan region Aleksey Popov. This is reported by RIA Novosti referring to its sources in the investigative bodies of the ICR in the Astrakhan region.
According to the investigation, while being an organization’s bankruptcy supervisor in the period from 2015 to 2017, the official sold its assets to a close friend. He sold property worth 115 million rubles ($1.73 million) at a price of 12 million rubles ($180,671). As the investigation found out, Popov organized the bidding with violations and thus ensured the victory of his friend. The official’s actions have been repeatedly appealed in court, where he provided falsified documents as evidence.
Investigators continue to establish all the circumstances of the fraud; the investigation is ongoing.
