Investigation asks for prolongation of Colonel Zakharchenko father's arrest
The Investigative Committee of Russia asked to remain Viktor Zakharchenko in the pre-trial detention center (SIZO) until August 30.
The Basmanny Court of Moscow received a petition of the investigation to prolong the arrest of the father of Colonel Dmitry Zakharchenko for three months, the press service of the court said.
The representative of the court clarified that the ICR requests to extend the deadline until August 30. Consideration of the application is scheduled for May 23.
Recall that earlier the Basmanny Court of Moscow had sanctioned the arrest of Viktor Zakharchenko until May 30. The complaint filed by Zakharchenko's lawyers was not successful - the Moscow City Court found the arrest of the former Colonel's father on suspicion of complicity in the embezzlement of legal funds.
As thу CrimeRussia previously reported, Viktor Zakharchenko was arrested on March 31 on charges of embezzlement of 4 million rubles ($70.800). According to the investigation, in two years he unreasonably received 4 million rubles from one of the banks (Nota Bank, according to the media) on his bankcard of the same financial institution.
Viktor Zakharchenko himself says that he does not recognize the charges brought against him. Despite the fact that the investigators assure that the investigation into the accused is not connected with the case of his son, Colonel Dmitry Zakharchenko, the arrested and his defense are convinced of the opposite.
As for Dmitry Zakharchenko, the Head of the Department T of the Ministry of Internal Affairs UEBiPK, he was charged under three articles of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation - 285 (Abuse of Official Powers), 290 (Bribe-Taking) and 294 (Obstruction of Justice and Preliminary Investigation). The Colonel was detained on September 9th during FSB special operation. During a search in his car and his sister's apartment, 8.5 billion rubles ($150.5m) were found.
In March, the Moscow Basmanny Court extended the arrest of Dmitry Zakharchenko until June 8. Last week it turned out that almost all family members of the former Colonel were involved in various corruption schemes.
The federal court in Washington rejected the claim of Russian billionaire Oleg Deripaska to the Associated Press on libel charges because of publications about his collaboration with Donald Trump's former chief of staff, Paul Manafort, on Tuesday, October 17.
