Adam Yakhutl and his colleagues

Colonel Adam Yakhutl is suspected of Swindling as part of a criminal case involving embezzlement from Mosoblbank.

FSB officers have detained Deputy Chief of Police of the Department of Transport in the Southern Federal District, Colonel Adam Yakhutl. According to Rosbalt, he has been arrested on suspicion of a large-scale swindling in a criminal case that is investigated by the ICR Main Investigations Directorate in Moscow. Sources say, the victim is businessman Dmitry Ganelin, who owns several companies once related to Mosoblbank.

The investigation believes that the high-ranking police officer received $1.5 million in exchange of promising to assist in removing individual defendants from the case of 70-billion-ruble ($1.04 billion) embezzlement from Mosoblbank. Yakhutl denies his guilt; witnesses in the case claim that he did not receive any funds.

To recall, in 2016, the Izmaylovsky District Court found former co-owner Andrzej Malczewski, ex-chairman of the board Viktor Yanin, as well as his former deputy Yulia Zedina guilty of a large-scale theft of depositors' funds. And in 2017, Mosoblbank filed a lawsuit demanding to recover damages of 67.8 billion rubles ($1 billion) from Malczewski. In summer 2018, the banker died of infectious meningitis.
