FSB colonel Cherkalin checked for involvement in other crimes
The investigation conducts searches and interrogates witnesses; the defendant’s arrest was extended.
Colonel Kirill Cherkalin, the head of the “K” department of the Economic Security Department of the Russian FSB, who is taken into custody on corruption charges, may be involved in other crimes. The investigation verifies this by conducting searches and interrogating witnesses, TASS reports. On June 20, the 235th garrison military court in Moscow extended his custody terms until August 25.
“The circumstances of Cherkalin’s receiving bribes for committing actions or inaction in favor of the bribe-giver have been established,” the representative of the investigation in court said.
According to the investigation, Cherkalin received $ 850,000 from an entrepreneur for general patronage from 2013 to 2015. In addition, Cherkalin, along with his subordinates Dmitry Frolov and Andrey Vasilyev, as well as wanted former member of the FSB public council Vladimir Stolyarenko and board member of JSC Eurofinance Mosnarbank Alexander Bondarenko are charged with fraud worth 490 million rubles ($ 7,66 million).
