Former Federal Penitentiary Service deputy head to appear before court for bribery during construction of Kresty-2 detention center

The Investigative Committee’s Main Directorate for St. Petersburg completed the investigation into the case of bribe-taking (section 4 of paragraph 4 of Article 290 CCRF) against the former deputy director of the FSIN, Nikolay Barinov. According to the investigators, Barinov received money “for general patronage and connivance at the service” from two heads of contracting firms for the construction of the largest pre-trial detention facility in the country – Kresty-2.

As the investigation established, from November 22, 2007 to August 28, 2008, Barinov met three times with two CEOs who were in charge of the contracting companies on the platform of the Moscow ailway station in St. Petersburg and received bribes of at least 44.1 million rubles ($ 675,000). On November 6, 2017, Barinov was arrested.
