Ex-Vice prime minister of Perm region Oleg Demchenko has testified in a case against the region’s ex-Minister of Transport Almaz Zakiyev who is being accused of bribery, reports Business Class.

Zakiyev is being accused of bribe taking (article 290 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and abuse of official powers (article 285 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). The investigation theory is that the ex-Minister facilitated the securing contracts by Mostotstroy-12; the contracts were worth of 2 billion rubles ($30.4 million) and related to construction of a belt route around a town of Chusovoy. Zakiyev allegedly disguised the bribery as sale of an apartment in Tyumen at the price of 9 million rubles ($136 thousand) which is above market value.

During the interrogation, Demchenko stated he was present at the meeting of Almaz Zakiyev with a head of Mostotryad #123 Yury Istyagin where construction of a belt route around a town of Chusovoy was being discussed. Istyagin stated Zakiyev had tried to convince him into refusing from his complaints and give the work contract to Mostotstroy-12.
