Deputy Mayor of Langepas (Khanty-Mansiysk District) charged with extorting 1.5 million rubles
The official became a defendant in the autumn of 2016 and has been on the run for a few months.
Andrey Miniahmetov, the Deputy Mayor of Langepas that is in the Khanty-Mansiysk District, has been arrested on suspicion of extorting a bribe.
According to investigators, Miniahmetov had solicited a 1.5-million-ruble bribe from the board chairman of a commercial organization in May 2016. In return, the official, being in charge of housing and communal issues, construction, accommodation, transport and road facilities, promised to safeguard the company’s interests. The investigators do not disclose any details of the deal between the Deputy Mayor and the entrepreneur. We only know that in June and August Miniahmetov got just 1 million rubles instead of the agreed 1.5 million.
A criminal case has been initiated against the official in October 2016, under part 6 of Art. 290 of the Criminal Code (Bribe-Taking on an especially large scale). The security forces raided his home and workplace. They seized money and documents that were of interest to the investigation. They failed to arrest Miniahmetov, however, as he had left the region.
It was not until early 2017 that the police found Miniahmetov’s trace and detained him on January, 11. At the moment, the suspect is held in prison by the court decision.
The Prosecutor's Office prescribed a check in Tyumen's correction colony (IK)-2 in connection with the suicide of a 20-year-old prisoner, who, according to human rights activists, was driven crazy by enforcers.
