Deputy Mayor and city official of Zlatoust detained at a meeting this morning
The officials are charged with office abuse.
Dinar Araslangareev, the Deputy Mayor of Zlatoust (the Chelyabinsk region), and Vladimir Khomyakov, the head of the city administration for urban planning and architecture, were detained by the FSB and the National Guard officers at a meeting on the morning of November 23. The officials are suspected of exceeding official powers.
The law enforcement officers have been in the city administration since 8 am. The offices of the detainees have been searched and the officials were taken to the investigation department for interrogation. “The gasification of one of Zlatoust settlements" is said to be the reason for the detention.
The website of the local Investigative Committee Office has informed that the detainees are charged under part 1 of Art. 286 of the Criminal Code (Exceeding Official Powers).
According to the investigators, the officials concluded a contract for the construction of supply routes to a private gas boiler in the village of Chapaevsky without a tender, in 2016. To make this possible, the officials declared a state of emergency in the city without any legal grounds. This resulted in the damage of more than 4 million rubles ($68.400).
The suspects are going to be convicted soon.
According to the Russian MIA’s spokesperson, Maria Zakharova, the detention of Russian woman Maria Butina in the US was specifically timed to coincide with the summit of Putin and Trump in order to minimize the effect of the presidents’ meeting.
