Deputy head of Traffic Police Directorate in Kabardino-Balkaria and another 14 policemen accused of bribery
One of the persons of interest was put on the international wanted list.
A criminal case was initiated against 15 police officers in Kabardino-Balkaria over bribe-taking (part 6 of Article 290 CCRF) and participation in a criminal community using their official position (part 3 of Article 210 CCRF). Both former and current employees of the MIA, as well as the deputy head of the Traffic Police Directorate, are among the accused. One of the accused escaped, 14 were taken into custody, the ICR’s press service reported.
According to the investigation, in the period of 2017 and 2018, the officials of the Kabardino-Balkaria MIA received at least 42 million rubles ($ 658,000) for providing protection to an illegal alcohol merchant who freely transported his goods throughout the country. The investigation believes the deputy head of the Traffic Police Directorate for the republic is the head of the OCG.
One defendant was put on the international wanted list, the rest were arrested. Several police officers entered into a pre-trial agreement and confessed, the ICR noted.
