The women's colony No. 15 in the Samara region is working as a detention facility.

A Samara district court has decided to arrest First Deputy Head of the Federal Penitentiary Service Directorate in the region, Denis Shmatov, for two months. He is charged with Bribe-Taking on a Large Scale, a criminal case has been initiated.

According to the investigation, on July 19, the deputy head of the Federal Penitentiary Service took a bribe in the amount of 520 thousand rubles ($8,250) for assistance in improving the living conditions of prisoners in the women's colony No. 15. The money was transferred on the street. It is known that the female colony does not operate according to the protocol, but as a detention facility.

The detention was carried out by FSB officers. The security department of the Federal Penitentiary Service assisted them in operational search activities.

Shmatov has worked in the penal system since 1996. He became first deputy head of the Federal Penitentiary Service Directorate in 2016.
