Deputy head of Balashikha administration arrested for bribes for turning blind eye to road repair quality
A criminal case of Bribe-Taking on an Especially Large Scale has been initiated.
The reason for the arrest of First Deputy Head of the Balashikha administration, Aleksey Koval, has been reported. According to the Investigations Directorate of the IC in the Moscow region, he is accused of taking a bribe of 4 million rubles ($62,040).
According to the investigation, since last summer, the official regularly received bribes from the general director of a construction company specializing in road maintenance. The total amount of bribes reached 4 million rubles. Aleksey Koval carried out the general patronage and the conclusion of contracts and deliberately did not monitor the quality of the work done on the repair of roads.
A criminal case of Bribe-Taking on an Especially Large Scale has been initiated against the suspect, stipulated in part 6 of Art. 290 of the Russian Criminal Code.
The official’s house and workplace have been searched. The IC is establishing those involved and finding out all the details of the crime.
General’s son Mikhail Sal’nikov, Professor of the Department of Theory of Government and Law at the St. Petersburg University of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of the Russian Federation, has been detained for real estate fraud. Amid other corruption crimes hitting the headlines, this offense does not seem a high-profile one. But the point is that this is not the first criminal case instituted against professor Sal’nikov, and he is not the only relative of MIA general Viktor Sal’nikov having problems with the law.
