Deputy Chief of Armed Forces General Staff Arslanov accused of embezzlement of $31 million

The swindling episode is related to the Voentelecom’s procurement criminal case.

Colonel General Khalil Arslanov, the deputy chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, was charged with swindling of 2 billion rubles ($ 31 million) in the case of Voentelecom. The investigation intends to achieve the removal of Arslanov from his post through court, Interfax writes.

According to the news agency, the case of Voentelecom involves the theft of budget money when purchasing special equipment for the Russian armed forces. Arslanov is under the written recognizance not to leave and pleads innocent.

Arslanov’s alleged accomplice Colonel Pavel Kutakhov, the head of the orders department for improving the technical basis of the RF Armed Forces command and control system, was placed in custody. In the same case, the deputy ex-head of Voentelecom, Oleg Savitsky, the former adviser to the company's commercial director, Dmitry Semiletov, the CEO of ErSiAy LLC Tatyana Ilyina were arrested earlier, Kommersant writes.

The ICR and Ministry of Defense did not give official comments on the case but did not refute the information.
