Dagestan: fake butter supplied to schools and kindergartens stealing $1mn on supplies

Fake product, which contains palm oil harmful to the health, was supplied to various institutions.

Makhachkala police are investigating into the criminal case of swindling with the supply of butter to schools and preschool educational institutions. Over the course of two years, a surrogate product disguised as real butter was supplied there. This is reported by Dagestan Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Investigators found out that employees of kindergartens and schools, as well as businessmen, who directly supplied products, had a collusion. According to government contracts, the supplies of butter were organized from 2016 to 2018. However, in reality, schools and kindergartens received fake product, which contains palm oil harmful to the health. Products were bought for 90 rubles and sold at a price of more than 300 rubles per kg.

A criminal case under Swindling has been initiated. The court of Makhachkala has placed three businessmen and the head of a municipal enterprise under house arrest.
