Court seizes $353k and premises rented out for retail chain by Colonel Zakharchenko’s wife
Marina Semynina

Marina Semynina, who had been renting out non-residential premises with an area of 2.5 thousand sq. m to the trading network, is a co-defendant in the suit of the Prosecutor General's Office on the seizure of Colonel Zakharchenko's family assets in favor of the state.

Following the investigating bodies’ request, the Moscow court has seized the personal account of the common-law wife of former Acting Head of the MIA Main Directorate for Economic Security and Anti-Corruption (GUEBiPK) Department ‘T’ Dmitry Zakharchenko – Marina Semynina – with VTB bank with a large sum of money.

According to TASS citing a source close to the investigation, apart from Semynina’s bank account, on which there were more than 20 million rubles ($353 thousand), the court has also seized the non-residential premises with an area of 2.5 thousand sq. m she rented out for one of the stores of Pyaterochka trading network in Moscow.

To recall, during the search in December 2017, around €2 thousand, medical records of children, phones, and tablets were seized from Semynina’s home.

In December 2017, it became known that after Dmitry Zakharchenko’s arrest, Marina Semynina withdrew about 10 million dollars from her account. Then, large sums of money appeared on her friends’ accounts. The investigation believes that this money belongs to Colonel Zakharchenko and had been “illegally obtained.” The same month, the court granted the suit of the Prosecutor General's Office on the seizure of 27 real estate items in the form of apartments and parking spaces in the elite districts of Moscow, four cars registered in the name of his relatives and friends, about 8 billion rubles ($141.4 million) in various currencies, and a gold bullion, from Zakharchenko. Total assets amounted to about 9 billion rubles ($159.1 million). Apart from the colonel and Marina Semynina, the defendants in the case included his father and mother Viktor and Valentina Zakharchenko, sister Irina Razgonova, common-law wives Anastasiya Pestrikova and Irina Petrushina, Pestrikova’s relative Liliya Gorshkova, and former official wife of the colonel Yana Saratovtseva and her mother.

According to the Nikulinsky Court of Moscow, the property of Zakharchenko and his relatives to be seized in favor of the state has been transferred to the Moscow administration of Rosimushchestvo (the Federal Property Management Agency), and almost 8 billion rubles in various currencies will be transferred to the federal budget. Last week, a Rosimushchestvo representative said that Zakharchenko family’s assets were yet to be transferred to the agency, but the process had already been launched. The property will be put up for auction immediately after the transfer from the Federal Bailiff Service is registered.

To recall, MIA Colonel Dmitry Zakharchenko was detained during a special operation by the FSB in September 2016 and has since been in a pre-trial detention center. Searches in his sister’s apartment in Moscow $124 million, €1.5 million, and 342 million rubles ($6 million) in cash.

The Investigative Committee has terminated the investigation against Colonel Zakharchenko on two episodes – Bribe-Taking (Art. 290 of the Russian Criminal Code) and Exceeding Official Powers (Art. 286).
