Court mitigates sentence for bribes of former Ivanovo region Government’s Deputy Chairman
The official will be released two years and three months earlier.
The Judicial Collegium for Criminal Cases of the Ivanovo Regional Court mitigated the term of imprisonment of former first Deputy Chairman of the regional government Andrey Kabanov. This was reported by the press service of the regional Prosecutor's Office.
It is noted that the former official convicted of bribery will spend six years and three months in a strict regime colony instead of 8.5 years.
The term was reduced due to mitigating circumstances, which the Collegium considered exceptional, the report of the supervisory authority said.
At the same time, the prosecution insisted on refusing to satisfy the appeal of the former Deputy Chairman and his lawyers, noting that the verdict must be left unchanged.
It is to be recalled that the criminal case against the official was initiated in August 2015; at the same time, he was dismissed. Kabanov was charged with taking bribes in a particularly large amount. During the investigation, Kabanov's property – several commemorative coins made of precious metals, cash money found during searches, and 119 paintings – were seized. Kabanov did not admit his guilt.
Ismail Efendiev is suspected of exceeding authority in connection with the investigation of cases of detained earlier former First Deputy Prime Minister Ramazan Aliyev and nephew of the former head of Dagestan Askhabali Abdulatipov. Searches are being conducted at Efendiev's office and house.
The disappearance of an elderly Muscovite, who owns three rooms on Ostozhenka Street, and her disabled son, worried the neighbors, but the police refused to initiate criminal proceedings on their application. Housing in the elite area of the capital in the meantime was re-registered to a resident of St. Petersburg, who introduced herself as their relative.
