Court mitigates sentence for bribes of former Ivanovo region Government’s Deputy Chairman
The official will be released two years and three months earlier.
The Judicial Collegium for Criminal Cases of the Ivanovo Regional Court mitigated the term of imprisonment of former first Deputy Chairman of the regional government Andrey Kabanov. This was reported by the press service of the regional Prosecutor's Office.
It is noted that the former official convicted of bribery will spend six years and three months in a strict regime colony instead of 8.5 years.
The term was reduced due to mitigating circumstances, which the Collegium considered exceptional, the report of the supervisory authority said.
At the same time, the prosecution insisted on refusing to satisfy the appeal of the former Deputy Chairman and his lawyers, noting that the verdict must be left unchanged.
It is to be recalled that the criminal case against the official was initiated in August 2015; at the same time, he was dismissed. Kabanov was charged with taking bribes in a particularly large amount. During the investigation, Kabanov's property – several commemorative coins made of precious metals, cash money found during searches, and 119 paintings – were seized. Kabanov did not admit his guilt.
The murder of businessman Mikhail Lanin in 2011 was an echo of a criminal case against a gang of fixers selling supreme posts in governmental structures and state companies of the Russian Federation for millions of euros. The fixers had acted straightforwardly: the purchasers of much-desired positions were promptly killed. Last week, a Chechnya native, who had shot Mikhail Lanin dead, was convicted to 20 years behind bars by the Paris Court. One of his accomplices was acquitted, while another one – sentenced to a conditional term. The CrimeRussia was figuring out why do the orchestrator of this murder Valid Lurakhmaev (Validol) and its instigator Akhmad Khamidov still remain at liberty.
The Gudautskaya gang crime lords – Raul Bartsba aka Pyza; Astamur Shamba aka Astik; Alkhas Avidzba aka Khasik – laid claim to the title of the No. 1 gang in Abkhazia's Galsky district that is on the border with Georgia.
