Court found former Economic Development Minister Ulyukaev guilty of bribe-taking

The Zamoskvoretsky court found former Economy Development Minister Alexey Ulyukaev guilty, a Kommersant correspondent reports from the courtroom.

It follows from the verdict that Mr. Ulyukaev, in accordance with his duties as Minister of Economic Development, submitted projects and proposals to Government. Thus, the judge reads, his duties included participation in the processes of privatization of state property.

The sentence is pronounced, the penalty will be announced later.

The former Minister is accused of taking a bribe of $2 million from Rosneft CEO Igor Sechin for approving the purchase of 50.08% stake in Bashneft PJSC. The state prosecution demands 10 years in a colony of strict regime and a fine of 500 million rubles ($8.5m) for him. Mr. Ulyukaev does not admit guilt, calling the criminal case against himself a "vile provocation of Sechin", and the requested punishment is "a death sentence for him."
