Court arrested property of Mari El Republic ex-Head
Two apartments of Leonid Markelov in Yoshkar-Ola and one in Moscow fell under sanctions. Besides, the real estate of the official’s stepmother is also arrested.
The Basmanny Court of Moscow seized property of former Governor of the Republic of Mari El Leonid Markelov. Official’s lawyer Sergey Sevruk told journalists about it on Wednesday, April 26.
According to the lawyer, sanctions are inflicted on two apartments in Yoshkar-Ola and on one apartment in the center of Moscow. “Also the court arrested two real estate objects of his stepmother,” Sevruk specified.
Earlier, lawyers of the former Head of Mari El appealed in the Moscow City Court against his arrest on the case over receiving multimillion bribes.
As the CrimeRussia wrote, the defense also appealed the initiation of legal proceedings against Markelov. The former Governor did not admit his guilt during the court session, emphasizing that “authoritative people” are ready to be stand surety for him.
To recall, the Basmanny Court of Moscow arrested Markelov for two months which he will spend in pre-trial detention center of Lefortovo. According to the investigators, the former Governor of Mari El received a bribe of more than 235 million rubles ($4.1m) for protection and assistance at property payment of funds of state support for development of an agricultural complex from founder of Akashevskaya factory Nikolay Krivash through authorized representative Natalia Kozhanova.
