Colonel Zakharchenko barred from new mattress in jail
On the eve of the New Year holidays, the deputy chairman of the Moscow Public Observation Commission (POC), Eva Merkacheva, visited the colonel billionaire in Lefortovo.
Members of the Public Observation Commission of Moscow checked the conditions of detention of prisoners of the Moscow jail, Moskovsky Komsomolets reports.
Among other well-known detainees, human rights activists visited the cell of the former head of the "T" Department of the Main Directorate for Economic Security and Anti-Corruption Enforcement of MIA Colonel Dmitry Zakharchenko.
According to human rights activists, Zakharchenko says he does not celebrate birthdays or holidays in the detention center. At the same time, he demonstrates an incredibly positive attitude and treats the prisoner life with humor:
“Pilot Matias Rust, who landed in 1987 on Red Square and went to Lefortovo for this, told about a Russian prison: “I just don’t understand why I’ve lived in the toilet for two and a half years?” do many years have passed but nothing has changed! Stability is good.”
Thus, Zakharchenko hinted at very small cells and the absence of a partition separating the rooms from the toilet. He also said that the request for the replacement of the old, with circle stains along the entire length of the mattress was denied.
Recall that the former acting head of the "T" Department of the Main Directorate for Economic Security and Anti-Corruption Enforcement of the MIA Dmitry Zakharchenko meets in the Lefortovo jail his third New Year. The colonel was detained during the FSB special operation in September 2016. He was charged with accepting a bribe, abusing his authority and obstructing the preliminary investigation. A search of Zakharchenko’s sister’s apartment in Moscow $124 million, €1.5 million and 342 million rubles ($4.9 mln) in cash were found.
Later, the investigation found that, having an official income at 12 million rubles for 15 years of service, the colonel acquired 27 expensive real estate objects – apartments and parking spaces, which, according to documents, he registered on his parents, as well as numerous concubines and their children. By court decision, which satisfied the claim of the Prosecutor General’s Office to the Zakharchenko family, money and property were recovered in favor of the Federal Treasury.
Seventeen Russian Governors are facing criminal prosecution for bribe-taking. The rest of them may be jailed any time for exceedance of official powers. At least, Nezygar (@russica2) Telegram channel claims so citing an unidentified source in the law enforcement structures. However, according to that source, it is currently prohibited to prosecute top-level officials. In 2018, the operatives had only searched offices of Vice Governors or Deputy Ministers – not their bosses. The CrimeRussia found out what supreme functionaries are on the hook of the law enforcement authorities and may be immediately indicted if the President orders so.
