Bashkiria: Traffic police officer takes bribe from drunk driver, gets caught
A 38-year-old traffic police officer was charged with bribery in Bashkiria.
Investigation of a criminal case against 38-year-old traffic police officer Aleksey Ukhatkin was completed in Belebey. He was charged with bribery.
Ukhatkin stopped a car for a check while on duty in June of 2017, according to investigators. The driver was drunk.
The driver offered the officer 15,000 rubles ($260) to avoid being prosecuted for drunk driving; the officer took the money.
It is worth mentioning that the driver was the one to offer the bribe and to later inform on the officer to the police.
"The driver later realized he violated the law and confessed to the police," the local Public Prosecutors’ Office said.
Ukhatkin had no other choice but plead guilty. He was dismissed.
The criminal case was referred to the Belebey Town Court for further proceedings.
