Bashkiria: official suspected of corruption passes out after seeing investigators
The state suffered damage of almost $ 226,000 due to illegal logging contracts.
In the Republic of Bashkortostan, the 38-year-old head of the Beloretsk forestry fainted when a law enforcement officer came to his office with a search. The official was suspected of fraud with contracts for logging, which caused the state damage in the amount of 14.5 million rubles ($ 218,000), the ICR’s Investigative Directorate for the republic reported.
According to the investigators, the head of the Beloretsk forestry received about 590,000 rubles ($ 9,000) for the illegally transfer of the right to deforestation. In the period from December 2015 to April 2016, the official allegedly sold the right to cut down forests for his own needs to straw persons, who then issued powers of attorney allowing third parties to cut down the trees. At the same time, they cut down the volume greater than was specified in the contract.
Against the official, a criminal case on the abuse of official powers, entailing grave consequences (part 3 of Article 285 CCRF) was initiated.
