Arrested FSB colonel Cherkalin praised prison porridge
Public Monitoring Committee reported about the custody conditions of the security official accused of corruption.
The head of the “K” department of the Economic Security Service of the Federal Security Service, Colonel Kirill Cherkalin, who is accused of bribery and swindling, praised the food at the Lefortovo pre-trial detention center. The security official does not have any complaints about the conditions of his custody, his double cell has a refrigerator, a TV set and hot water, executive secretary of the Moscow PMC Ivan Melnikov told TASS.
“He has everything he needs, he does not complain about anything. Also, the FSB officer said that he was satisfied with the detention facility’s food. He liked the soup with buckwheat, potatoes and chicken, as well as the porridges,” the human rights activist said.
During the walks, the FSB colonel works out. His cellmate is a former law enforcement officer, “they are in regular relations.”
Cherkalin is charged with receiving a bribe of $ 850,000 and swindling of 490 million rubles ($ 7,56 million). Former FSB officers Dmitry Frolov and Andrey Vasilyev are also defendants in the second case.
General’s son Mikhail Sal’nikov, Professor of the Department of Theory of Government and Law at the St. Petersburg University of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of the Russian Federation, has been detained for real estate fraud. Amid other corruption crimes hitting the headlines, this offense does not seem a high-profile one. But the point is that this is not the first criminal case instituted against professor Sal’nikov, and he is not the only relative of MIA general Viktor Sal’nikov having problems with the law.
