After the attempt doctors diagnosed gunshot wounds to the head, chest and limbs. After the operation, Chernov's condition was stabilized, but on the night of March 7 he died, Life reports.
The assassination attempt on officer of the FSIN, Lieutenant Colonel Nikolay Chernov, took place on March 2 at approximately 17:30 on the 8th kilometer of Koltushskoe highway. That evening Chernov went to his country house by his own car Nissan X-Trail. However, something made him pull over in front of the turn to Staraya village in Vsevolozhsk district. The law enforcement bodies believe that Chernov had a meeting with a certain Sabir Sadykov here. At this point it is not known what they were talking about. Law enforcement agencies believe their meeting was planned in advance. During the conversation someone released the entire magazine of a Makarov pistol into lieutenant and then the unknown hided. A local police patrol found the bloody FSIN officer. Not far from the scene SUV BMW of Sadykov, who told police that he witnessed the murder, was parked. He gave false testimony about the fact that he saw VAZ-2109, in which there were persons of Caucasian nationality, who had left the scene of the murder. However, the investigators doubting the reliability of the information detained and subsequently arrested Sadykov.
According to online publication 47news, Sadykov is a decision-maker acting as an intermediary between businessmen and the security forces, who are engaged in construction of new detention facility at Kolpino Kresty 2. Immediately after the detention and arrest Sadykov ratted out the alleged instigator of the crime – deputy on capital construction of the regional UFSIN Sergey Moiseenko. The senior officer was detained the previous night.

Notably, shot Nikolay Chernov was subordinate to Moiseenko. Recently the superior and the subordinate have had disagreements on the construction of Kresty 2. Thus, Chernov, occupying the post of Head of the department on engineering supervision of construction and operation of construction facilities of the regional UFSIN and directly overseeing the new detention center, refused to sign a number of documents. The victim explained his refusal with unfinished works and omissions in the construction.
