Politkovskaya investigation on hold indefinitely, lawyer said
Novaya Gazeta columnist Anna Politkovskaya was shot dead on October 7, 2006 in the hall of her building in Moscow.
The investigation into the murder of Novaya Gazeta columnist Anna Politkovskaya is on hold, the lawyer of the journalist’s family, Anna Stavitskaya, said in a statement to Interfax.
According to her, if anything, the probe drags on.
Stavitskaya reminded that so far, the paymaster has not been found. In 2019, a petition was filed to interrogate Akhmed Zakayev, a UK-based emissary of Chechen separatists. However, it was not possible to interrogate him.

A former policeman, Dmitry Pavlyuchenkov, was charged with organizing the crime and sentenced to 11 years in a maximum-security colony. Lom-Ali Gaitukaev, brothers Dzhabrail and Ibrahim Makhmudov, and Sergey Khadzhikurbanov were named in the case as perpetrators. Gaitukaev and Makhmudov were sentenced to life, the Makhmudov brothers got 12 and 14 years respectively, and Khadzhikurbanov was jailed for 20 years.
