Persons suspected of murdering businessman Shabtay Kalmanovich detained in Moscow
The murder has been under investigation since 2009.
In Moscow, three men suspected of the murder of businessman Shabtay Kalmanovich in November 2008 have been detained, Baza reports via Telegram.
Russian-Israeli businessman Kalmanovich was shot dead in his car on November 2, 2009. When leaving the office, he told his secretary that he was going to an important meeting. It was reported that he had $1.5 million on him. Kalmanovich's car was shot at from another car, which slowed down next to his at an intersection. The businessman died on the spot, and his driver was seriously wounded.
In Maych 2019, Lenta.ru reported referring to sources that the ICR decided to resume the investigation into the murder of Kalmanovich after the death of some gangland businessman, who could have been involved in the crime. Allegedly, the deceased man could put pressure on the witnesses, so investigators intend to re-interview them. Among those questioned was Ksenia Sobchak, Anastasiya Volochkova, Fyodor Bondarchuk, and other celebrities.
The businessman's death was associated with the murder of thief in law Vyacheslav Ivankov (Yaponchik) a few months earlier. One of the versions is that both of them (being partners) became victims of the conflict around the Dorogomilovsky market. Another version is that it was Kalmanovich who ordered the hit on Yaponchik, and he was shot out of revenge.
Baza reports that one of the suspects was a defendant in the case of the attack on Mikhail Zhvanetsky in 2002. Back then, the writer was attacked near his country house in Serebryany Bor. Zhvanetsky was beaten, forced in a car, and thrown out near the Moscow Ring Road. $600 and a briefcase with texts was stolen from the satirist.
Presumably, it concerns the US response to Ukraine’s help in the investigation against Joseph Biden, Trump’s main rival in the 2020 presidential election, who allegedly was in collusion with Kiev during the previous campaign.
