Former Novaya Gazeta chief editor links Politkovskaya’s murder to Kadyrov
Anna Politkovskaya was shot dead in the elevator of her building in Moscow on October 7, 2006.
Anna Politkovskaya, a journalist at Novaya Gazeta, was killed shortly after she had made a research into the Akhmat Kadyrov Foundation, said Dmitry Muratov, the former chief editor of Novaya Gazeta, at a meeting with Yekaterinburg people, according to Ura.ru.
“Anya had gone to Chechnya just before her death, and that might have been the last straw. She managed to get to the bottom of it, found where the Akhmat Kadyrov Foundation got its money. The organization is now run by Ramzan Kadyrov and his mother. She conducted a thorough investigation, which apparently got her killed,” Muratov said during the event held at the Yeltsin Center.
In addition, the people were shown Askold Kurov’s film about Novaya Gazeta, in which Muratov spoke harshly about Ramzan Kadyrov more than once and repeatedly called the head of Chechnya a “dictator”.
