Chechen suspected of involvement in contract murders caught on video with Kadyrov
Journalists have noticed federally and internationally wanted criminal Shaa Turlaev on the video.
Novaya Gazeta journalists have noticed Shaa Turlaev – who used to be Security Chief of former President of the self-proclaimed Chechen Republic of Ichkeria, Aslan Maskhadov –on the video showing Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov giving a speech in front of former militants who favored secession from Russia.
Turlaev is on the federal and international wanted list for committing contract murders. In particular, he is linked to the murder in 2008 of State Duma Deputy Ruslan Yamadaev, as well as the murder of former Kadyrov security guard Umar Israilov in 2010.
In addition, the investigation believes that Turlaev was behind the attempted murder of politician Isa Yamadaev, Mayor of Dagestan's Khasavyurt Saygidpasha Umakhanov, and leader of the Chechen diaspora in Norway Magomed Ocherkhadzhi.
According to Novaya Gazeta, the last investigative measures against Turlaev were conducted in 2014 as part of the case of an attempt on Umakhanov. Back then, the investigation failed to establish Turlaev’s whereabouts. At the same time, according to the publication, he lived in the Chechen Gudermes and did not change his address for several years.
The MIA database displays no entries for “Shaa Turlaev 1969”. Novaya Gazeta journalists report that they have checked the database several times and have not found information about Turlaev, wanted in 2010. The publication intends to send a request to the Ministry of Internal Affairs asking whether Turlaev is in the federal wanted list. If Turlaev is not on the base, Novaya will require explanations.
By approving the pension reform, Russian lawmakers have admitted the frailty of life.
